Challenge
A power plant located on the Eastern seaboard of the United States found multiple leaks in hydraulic lines leading to their induced draught fan (ID fan) diffuser assembly. Leaks caused the ID fan assembly to fill with fluid. This caused an interruption in maintaining necessary air movement and cooling effect in the power plants emissions cleansing processes. Ambient temperature along with being a confined space kept maintenance crews from entering.
Technical Assessment
Phoenix High Temperature Repair crews were mobilized to the plant and immediately established control of the work area. Proprietary PPE was required ofPhoenix crew members during work site inspections. An engineered solution complete with risk assessment and confined space plan was presented to the client.
Solution
Our team entered the ID fan and removed all fluid from housing. Hydraulic system was inspected and repaired. We also rebalanced the ID fan for proper operation.
Results
All leaks inside the ID fan housing were repaired and unit was brought back into full operation after balance testing was completed. This resulted in the client saving considerable time, capital and a potential loss of power generation production.
